How to authenticate using Mashreq Mobile App:

When you attempt an e-commerce transaction on a Mashreq Card, you can follow the steps to authenticate or approve it.

Important points to remember:
1. Download or update Mashreq Mobile App to the latest version. Select ‘Boost security’ and follow the instructions on screen to register your trusted device.
2. Enable notification settings on your mobile phone to continue approving transactions seamlessly.
3. In case you miss the app notification, you can open Mashreq Mobile App → tap Security (bottom right, pre-login) → Approve transaction.

3D Secure is an additional layer of security for e-commerce transactions made on your Mashreq Credit and Debit Cards. It helps verify that the person making the purchase is the legitimate cardholder by authenticating via Mashreq Mobile App.
Yes. We are introducing secure authentication for e-commerce transactions via Mashreq Mobile App. Instead of an SMS OTP, you would receive a push notification on your registered mobile device to approve the transaction through your device biometrics or your Mashreq Mobile App Security PIN.
Follow the steps below to register your device and approve e-commerce transactions via Mashreq Mobile App:
  • Download and/or update Mashreq Mobile App from your app store (8.2.6 or above)
  • Register your phone once as a trusted device and enable your device biometrics (face recognition or fingerprints) and a Security PIN (by selecting ‘Boost Security’ from the pre-login screen and follow the instructions)
  • Enable push notifications on Mashreq Mobile App and your mobile device

Simply follow the steps below:
  • When you initiate an e-commerce transaction at an online merchant, you will receive a push notification on Mashreq Mobile App to authenticate the transaction (replacing SMS OTP)
  • Tapping the notification will take you directly to the approval screen after logging in to the Mashreq Mobile App. If the notification doesn’t appear, open Mashreq Mobile App and select “Security” from the pre-login screen to review the transaction
  • Authenticate the transaction using your device biometric or your Security PIN on Mashreq Mobile App
  • Go back to the e-commerce merchant page and select Continue
This new form of authenticating e-commerce transactions offers multiple benefits:
  • Secure: Reduces the risk of fraudulent usage on your card, such as phishing, OTP theft or social engineering and Sim-swap
  • Faster: No need to wait for OTPs via SMS and enter one-time codes manually
  • Convenience: All you need is a registered device and internet connection
Yes. Customers that have registered their trusted device via Mashreq Mobile, SMS OTPs will be replaced by push notifications and authentication via Mashreq Mobile. While SMS OTP fallback may be available temporarily for select customers to facilitate a smooth transition, Mashreq will gradually block authentication of e-commerce transactions via SMS OTP.
If you have not registered your device via Mashreq Mobile yet, you may still receive an SMS OTP temporarily to authenticate e-commerce transactions during the transition period. We strongly recommend registering your device via Mashreq Mobile App at the earliest to enjoy secure and seamless approvals for your transactions. Mashreq will gradually block authentication of e-commerce transactions via SMS OTP.
Check your internet connection, ensure your Mashreq Mobile App is updated with the latest version, ensure the notification settings on your trusted device are enabled and check the Security tab on the log-in screen for pending approvals, if any. If your authentication fails thrice on Mashreq Mobile (e.g., due to server or connectivity or authentication issues), the next attempt will automatically trigger an SMS OTP as a fallback for your convenience, ensuring you can complete your card transaction.   • Review and approve your transaction from the pending approval request
Please ensure you have enabled notifications for Mashreq Mobile on your trusted device to continue approving transactions seamlessly.
No. This service is provided free of cost to Mashreq Cardholders.
No. Token provisioning to add your card to a digital wallet such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay will continue to be authenticated using an SMS OTP.
