Fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated, but you can stay ahead by following these simple tips:
Common fraud risks to watch out for
Phishing scams – Never click on suspicious links or share your banking details via email, SMS, or phone. Mashreq will never ask for your OTP, PIN, soft token, username or passwords.
Impersonation calls – Fraudsters may pose as bank representatives or law enforcement officials. If in doubt, hang up and contact us directly.
Unauthorized Transactions – Regularly monitor your bank statements and mobile app/ SMS notifications. Report any suspicious activity immediately.
Fake banking apps & websites – Always use our official apps and website. Do not download banking apps from unofficial sources.
Social engineering attacks – Be cautious of unexpected messages or calls urging you to act quickly, such as urgent fund transfers or security verifications. Always hang up and call the person back and always check the identity of the person you are transferring to.
How to protect yourself
- Use strong, unique passwords and change them regularly
- Never share your OTPs, PINs, or passwords with anyone
- Keep your banking app and devices updated
- Verify all payment requests, especially from known or unknown contacts
- Never delete transactional messages at the request of any person
- Banks will never call to obtain confidential information

In the digital era, it is vital to secure your financial information. Whether shopping online or in-store, protecting your card details prevents fraud and unauthorized transactions.
Use these key tips to keep your card safe.
One Time Password (OTP) safety
  1. Never share your card details like OTP, expiry date, CVV or PIN with anyone
  2. Mashreq will never ask for your OTP. If you receive a call asking you such infor-mation, immediately inform us at + 92 21 111 000 636
  3. 3Fraudsters may pose as bankers/legal authorities, asking for your OTP. Do not share your details with anyone
  4. Never share your account details, card details or OTP with anyone on call, SMS, e-mail or on social media

Never click on any suspicious links. If clicked accidently, do not add your account, card or other details is prompted.

Personal information safety
  1. Please do not provide any financial/personal/card related information to any unknown website or respond to any emails/SMS seeking such information
  2. Don’t respond to unsolicited email requests for personal account information, even if the source of the request looks trustworthy
  3. Don’t respond to unsolicited calls or text messages
  4. Don’t respond to unsolicited text messages asking for personal account information, even if the source of the request looks trustworthy.
  5. Do not share or store your card number on social media sites
  6. Limit the amount of personal information you provide on social media sites. The more information you post, the easier it may be for a criminal to use that information to steal your identity, access your data or commit other crimes
  7. Be cautious about messages you receive on social media sites that contain links. Even links that look like they come from friends can sometimes be harmful or fraudulent and in fact may be attempts to gain control on your device or steal your personal information. If you are suspicious, don’t click the link. Contact your friend or the business directly to verify
  8. Never reply to calls or texts asking for your personal information or payment to receive a prize
  9. Never respond to emails or text messages that request a fee to claim offers, prizes, courier deliveries, etc. These are fraudsters trying to get your personal information
  10. Do not download anti-virus or software updates sent via email or SMS
  11. Never reveal your password or PIN details to strangers

Additional Safety Tips
  1. Keep your cards safe: Store your cards securely in a wallet, purse or digital wallet and avoid leaving them unattended. Do not share your card details, PIN, or security code with anyone, other than using it for a secure transaction
  2. Protect your card information: Enter your card PIN discreetly at ATMs and point-of-sale/payment terminals to prevent unauthorized viewers. Change your PIN periodically
  3. Be aware of phishing scams: Be cautious of unsolicited emails, phone calls, or messages requesting your card information. Scammers often use phishing tactics to deceive individuals
  4. Use secure Wi-Fi networks: Avoid conducting card transactions or accessing sensitive information on public Wi-Fi networks. Choose a secure and private network whenever possible
  5. Keep contact information updated: Ensure your bank or card issuer has your current contact details to swiftly reach you regarding any suspicious activities

How do I secure my card account from Fraud?
  1. Treat your card as cash, never leave it unattended
  2. Sign your card on the signature panel as soon as you receive it
  3. Never put your card number or personal identification number (PIN) on the outside of an envelope or postcard. Never put your PIN on the card or in your wallet or store them on your mobile
  4. Do not ignore any SMS alerts or calls from the bank regarding your transactions. Call the helpline immediately in case you notice any discrepancies
  5. Ensure that you get your card back after every purchase
  6. Always check sales vouchers for the correct purchase amount before you sign them and keep copies of your vouchers
  7. Always check your billing statements and verify the amount of your purchases
  8. Make a comprehensive list of all your cards and their numbers and store them in a safe place
  9. Do not lend your card to anybody as you are responsible for its use
  10. Report lost/stolen/damaged cards immediately. The sooner you report the better the chances of stopping fraud. Download the Mashreq Mobile App to block and unblock cards at your will
  11. Check and report any unidentified transaction on your statement immediately
  12. Keep your card in sight when purchasing in-store and check that the correct card is returned to you
  13. Check that the package is intact when you receive a new card and report any lost or stolen cards immediately
  14. Always shred your card statements, receipts and cut expired or damaged cards before discarding
